Why do students engage or disengage with what you are teaching? How can you create a learning environment that engages your learners? In this session we will explore the why and how of student-centered learning. First, we will briefly explore how learning works and why student-centered learning is an important approach in engaging students. We will explore the advantages and challenges of student-centered learning in the real-world classroom. I will present strategies and approaches I use in my own fifth-grade classroom to engage students with a student-centered learning approach. We will then reflect on strategies and methods of employing a student-centered approach to engage the students in your classroom.
